Andrew W. “Sonny” Tomko, Jr., 85, Stoystown (Wilbur), died Sept. 22, 2013 at Select Specialty Hospital, Johnstown. Born Aug. 10, 1928 in Wilbur, son of Andy and Anna (Druahloski) Tomko.
Preceded in death by parents, wife the former Betty Spiker, brothers Robert and Richard, and sisters Nancy Fello and Marge Klun.
Survived by his children: Roger married to the former Susan Hershberger, Somerset;
Russ married to the former Cindi Bentrim, Shanksville;
Darlene married to Jerry Craycraft, Wilbur; and
Jeff married to the former Patty Hay, Stoystown;
grandchildren: Shannon, Brandy, David, Shaun, Tanya, Mike, Laura, Nicole, Vanessa, and Ondrea;
18 great grandchildren;
sisters and brothers: Ann Toma, Windber; David (Donna) Tomko and Joseph “Smokey” (Barb) Tomko, both of Hooversville; Delores “Dee” Peterman, Virginia; Steve Tomko, Wilbur; Linda (Brian) Lievens, Hawaii; and Diane (Roland) Wilt, Stoystown;
sisters-in-law: Janie Spiker and friend Frank Marone, Hollsopple, and Nancy Tomko, Ohio; brother-in-law Robert Spiker, Blough; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was a World War II Navy veteran and was retired from Bethlehem Steel, Johnstown. Member of Holy Family Catholic Church, Hooversville, Stoystown American Legion Post 257, life member of Jenner Rod and Gun Club, and member of Quemahoning Rod and Gun Club. He was a devoted family man who enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping and “seng” hunting.
Family will receive friends from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Deaner Funeral Home, Stoystown where there will be a vigil for the deceased. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Family Catholic Church, Hooversville. Rev. Karl Kolodziejski OFM Conv. officiating. Committal Church Cemetery.
