August Kern

August Kern, 95, Somerset formerly of Glen Savage, died Oct. 22, 2016 at Siemon’s Heritage Personal Care Center. Born April 3, 1921 in Fairhope, son of Fred and Mollie (Woida) Kern. Preceded in death by parents, wife the former Carmen Beal, brothers Gus and Julius Kern, and sister Susan O’Neil. Survived by sisters: Ottile “Tillie” Tag, Somerset, and Hilda (Charles) Mowry, Berlin, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was a WW II Navy veteran and recipient of 16 Bronze Stars. He was a retired farmer and a retired custodian from Gilmore Manufacturing. Member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Glen Savage, American Legion Post 445, Berlin where he is a member of the Last Man’s Club, V.F.W. Post 554, Somerset, Paradise Valley and New Baltimore Sportsmen’s Clubs. He was an avid hunter. Family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Deaner Funeral Home, Berlin. Viewing from 11 a.m. until service at 12 noon Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church. Rev. Paul Yanke officiating. Interment church cemetery.
