Cynthia Eileen (Metzger) Mason, 69, Berlin, passed away on August 12, 2017. Born in Warsaw, Indiana, on October 26, 1947, she was the second eldest child of the late Maurice Metzger and Julia Ann (Flohr) Metzger. Cynthia received her bachelor’s degree from Manchester University (North Manchester, Indiana) in Peace Studies in 1970, and her master’s degree from Denver University (Denver, Colorado) in International Relations in 1972. An avid genealogist, Cynthia served as director of the Pennsylvania Room at the Meyersdale Public Library for the past 17 years. She enjoyed traveling, reading, gardening, and shape note singing with the Somerset County Sacred Harp singings. She was a member of the Somerset Church of the Brethren, where she enjoyed singing in the chancel choir and playing handbells. She was also a member of the Meyersdale Area Historical Society. Cynthia always advocated for peace and justice. She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Donald J. Mason; her daughter Melissa (John) Dull of Staunton, Virginia, and granddaughter Sara-Rhiannon; stepson Douglas (Nina) Mason of Heath, Massachusetts, and grandchildren Joseph and Sofia; stepson Mark (Linda) Mason of Berlin, and grandchildren Shawna, Jonah, and Rachel Altobelli; siblings Dennis (Van) Metzger, Wendy (Don Schultz) Metzger, Catherine (Beth Miller) Metzger, Teresa (Phil) Howe, and Erick (Patty Callahan) Metzger; nieces Madalyn (Kris Brownlee) Metzger, Jocelyn (Edward) Watkins, Lutricia Eberly; nephew Luke Eberly; and great-nephew Carson Eberly.
