Emily Margaret (Custer) Koontz

Emily Margaret Koontz, 95, of Somerset formerly of Stoystown, died June 26, 2015 at The Patriot. Born May 18, 1920 in Listie, daughter of Edmund and Carrie (Metzgar) Custer. Preceded in death by parents, husband John F., sisters: Alverta Krone, Edna Morrow, Victoria Custer, and Anna Darr; and brothers: Harold, William, and Lloyd Custer. Survived by children: Kay married to Thomas Hansen, Ellsworth, Maine, Donald F., Somerset, Suzanne married to David Merringer, Stoystown, and Joan, Menlo Park, CA; grandchildren: Jason Merringer, Jill (Chris) Kalaha, and Jared Hansen; great grandchildren: Tasha and Tess Merringer, Kinter, Kylan, and Kyree Kalaha; sister Mary Louise (Donald) Landis, Shanksville; and sister-in-law Ruth Custer, Somerset. She was a 1937 graduate of Somerset Township High School and former co-owner of Koontz’s Economy Market, Stoystown. Member of Grace Lutheran Church, Stoystown where she sang in the choir, served on the Social Ministry Committee, and WELCA. Also a member of Stoyestown Area Historical Society, Farm Women, and Forbes Area Senior Citizens. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, sewing, and cooking. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Deaner Funeral Home, Stoystown. Viewing from 10 a.m. until service at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Grace Lutheran Church. Rev.
