Gertrude L. Baker, 89, Berlin, passed from the loving care of her family to that of her Lord and Savior on June 12, 2016. Born July 27, 1926 in Meyersdale, daughter of Richard and Mamie (Brown) Breig. Preceded in death by parents, husband of 61 years Burton Zane Baker, sisters Mary Elizabeth Schardt and Helen Arnold, and brothers Francis Eugene and Peter Breig. Survived by her children Kenneth D. Baker married to the former Deborah Walker and Donna L. Williams and husband Timothy; nine grandchildren: Patrick and Eric (Colbie) Baker, Christina (Bill) Burkholder, Jill Coyle, Jolene Baker Smith, Jeff (Roni) Langley, Burton Baker, Rebecca Williams and Matthew Williams and fiancée Kristen Lowery; twelve great grandchildren: Jeremy (Amanda) Baker, Cooper Baker, Ashton Coyle, Gunner and Zane Greer, Heidi, Josie and Elizabeth Shaffer, Paige and Danny Smith, Collen Langley, and Harper Williams; sisters Alice Elaine White and husband Wendall, and Doris Lesh and husband John; sister-in-law Hazel Breig; numerous nieces and nephews; special nephew Donald Breig; “adopted daughter” Debbie Werner and “adopted grandson” Steve Spear and family. Gertrude loved the Lord, her family, and anyone she met. She was always ready and eager to help any in need. In addition to being a homemaker and mother she worked at Meyersdale Manufacturing for almost 20 years. Longtime member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Berlin, and helped establish The Brothersvalley 4-H Club and was a leader for many years. She was a 1944 graduate of Meyersdale High School. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Deaner Funeral Home, Berlin where a service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday. Chaplain Brenda Benner officiating.
