Gladys M. Spangler, 90, Somerset, died Feb. 3, 2016 at The Patriot. Born Feb. 18, 1925 in Somerset, daughter of Richard C. and Elizabeth (Meyers) Miller. Preceded in death by parents, husband Ray G., brother Clyde Miller, sisters-in-law: Dorothy (Marshal) Urban, and Ruth (Ken) Saylor, and step brother-in-law Thomas Anderson. Survived by children: Cheryl Spangler, Somerset; Jerry Spangler and wife Susan Mahler, Mechanicsburg; and Jon Spangler married to the former Evelyn Windsor, Richardson, Texas; grandchildren: Jessica (Tim) Vice, Steven Spangler, Jenna Mahler, and Jonathan Mahler; brothers: Neil (Ruby) Miller, Somerset, and Lester (Ruth) Miller, Friedens; sister: Dolores (William) Eckman, LaPlata, Md.; sisters-in-law: Nancy Miller, Berlin; Betty Anderson, Somerset; and Barbara (Paul) Hackett, Hampton, Virginia; brother-in-law James (Sally) Spangler, Somerset; and numerous nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors. She was a 1943 graduate of Somerset High School. Former employee of J.J. Newberry Co. and former cafeteria worker at Shanksville Stonycreek Schools. Member of St. Mark Lutheran Church, Shanksville. She was actively involved in her community, helping to organize and working with the Shanksville Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, the Shanksville Stonycreek PTA and Band Parents organizations, helping to start the Annual Ham Supper, and Fashion Show and Tea. She enjoyed her work as a Sunday school and Catechism teacher at St. Mark Lutheran Church. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Deaner Funeral Home, Stoystown. Viewing from 10 a.m. until service at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Mark Lutheran Church, Shanksville. Rev. David L. Bowman officiating. Interment Somerset Co. Memorial Park.
