Glenn Albert Miller

Glenn Albert Miller, 84, Stoystown (Stonycreek Township), died July 21, 2015 at Memorial Medical Center, Johnstown. Born Feb. 14, 1931 in Stonycreek Twp., son of Russel and Belinda (Meyers) Miller. Preceded in death by parents, wife of 47 years the former Janet M. Sleek, and son-in-law Ed Atcher. Survived by his children: Linda Atcher; and Dorothy married to Matthew Hixson, all of Cocoa, Fla, Barbara married to Michael Stutzman, and Roger married to the former Barbara Bittner, all of Friedens, and Diane married to Daniel Jones, Pittsburgh; nine grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and one great great grandson; brother Charles Miller, Camp Hill; and dear friend and companion Mary Kemp. He split his time between Florida and Pennsylvania. He dearly loved his neighbors at both locations and they became part of his extended family. He was a 1948 graduate of Shanksville-Stonycreek High School and member of the 1948 PIAA State runner up basketball team. Retired from U.S. Steel in Johnstown. He loved to travel and was able to visit all 50 states, many locations in South America, and eight European countries. He lived life to the fullest and he often said: “We didn’t do anything or go anywhere that we didn’t have fun.” He had a great sense of humor and was seldom seen without a smile. He was the biggest Pittsburgh Pirates fan of all; he could tell you the stats of any player at any time, including the opposing team. He was an avid reader, horse owner/trainer, and golfer, having scored a double eagle in his 70s. Member of Roxbury United Church of Christ, Somerset Lodge 358 F &A.M., Meyersdale Elks, Somerset F.O.E. Aerie 1801, Shanksville Gun and Rod Club (Cross Forks, PA), Mountain Field and Stream, New Baltimore Sportsmen’s Clubs, a charter member of the Shanksville V.F.D., and former president of the Stonycreek Township Municipal Authority. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Deaner Funeral Home, Stoystown where service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday. Rev. Matt Deal officiating.
