Grant Carl Walker, 96 of Berlin, formerly of Stonycreek Twp., died March 7, 2018 at Meadow View Nursing Center. Born Feb. 10, 1922 in Stonycreek Twp. son of Clyde and Pearl (Stull) Walker. Preceded in death by parents, wife the former Florence Carmany, infant son, son-in-law Claude Duppstadt, and sister Ferne (Bill) Flamm. Survived by daughters: Gwen Duppstadt, Hubert, NC, and Wendy (Rob) Stemple, Shanksville; grandchildren: Andrew (Laura) Duppstadt, Kinston, NC, Tim (fiancée Jeanne) Duppstadt, Jacksonville, NC, Nicole Stemple (partner Lindsay), Pittsburgh, Jill Stemple, Harrisburg, and Ryan (fiancée Danielle) Stemple, Pittsburgh. He attended the one-room school at Boone and was a 1940 Graduate of Stonycreek Township High School. Grant worked on the family farm in Stonycreek Twp. until age 29, then 43 years in the lumber business with McNeal Lumber, Poorbaugh Lumber Co. and J.C.M. which he retired from at age 72. His retirement job was security and maintenance for Virgil & Lucille Cantini’s farm on Imgrund Mountain. He also fired furnace for 12 seasons at Lewis “Pap” Duppstadt’s sugar camp and several seasons for Greg Walker. Grant and Flossie treasured their good friends and neighbors and welcomed the Amish families in Stonycreek Twp. He was a faithful member of Unity United Church of Christ and was a trustee for the Upper Glade Cemetery for over 50 years before being named trustee emeritus. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday (today) at Deaner Funeral Home, Berlin. Viewing from 10 a.m. until service at 11 a.m. Saturday at Unity U.C.C., Huckleberry Hwy., Berlin. Rev. Jay Shaffer officiating. Interment Glade Cemetery. Please NO flowers due to allergies.
