John Paul Baker, 91, Berlin, died November 8, 2015 at Somerset In Touch Hospice House. Born April 16, 1924 in Wilkinsburg, son of Wilbert and Mary Elizabeth (Simpson) Baker. Preceded in death by parents; wife, the former Olga Swet; infant daughter Christina; brother Charles; and sisters Marguerite Lester and Mary Bolland. Survived by children: Patricia Greenland and husband Austin, Bedford; Elaine Landis and husband John, and Charles married to the former Molly Brick, both of Berlin; John Paul II “Buttons” married to the former Cathy McMillen, Bowling Green, KY; and Cynthia Cusimano and husband Scott, Italy; 12 grandchildren, eight great grandchildren; and special friend Lois Custer, Somerset. He was a World War II and Korean War Army veteran, receiving two Bronze Stars; and was a retired rural mail carrier. Member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Berlin, where he served as an elder and a deacon; Meyersdale F & AM Lodge #554, Somerset Shrine where he was a past High Priest, Hebron Royal Arch Chapter 272, Meyersdale; American Legion Post 445 and VFW Post 7295, Berlin, the Last Man’s Club; and was a driver for Meals On Wheels for many years. He was one of the founders of the Berlin Ambulance Association. At John’s request, there will be no viewing. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
