John E. Baltzer, 88, of Friedens (Lake Stonycreek), died Jan. 14, 2017 at home. Born April 10, 1928 in Shanksville, son of Edward and Viola (Saylor) Baltzer. Preceded in death by parents, son Michael, brothers Donald and James, and daughter-in-law Laurie. Survived by his wife of 53 years the former Sondra Landis; children: John Jr., Friedens, David and fiancée Linda, Strasburg, and Jodi Abramowich, Shanksville; grandchildren: Tessa (Matt) Belsterling, John and Michael (Amy) Abramowich, Dave (Jamie), Steve (Valerie), and Matthew Baltzer; great grandchildren: Parker, Chase, Jaxson and Hope Belsterling, Camden, Mason and Ella Abramowich, Marcus, Brittany and Bella Baltzer, and Line Kinsey; and brother Robert (Gloria) Baltzer, Shanksville. He was a 1945 graduate of Shanksville Stonycreek High School. Retired from the Brick Layers Union after 65 years service, where he traveled to many countries building industrial plants. Member of St. Mark Lutheran Church, Shanksville. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed spending winters in Florida. Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Deaner Funeral Home, Berlin. Viewing from 10 a.m. until service at 11 a.m. Wed. at St. Mark Lutheran Church, Shanksville. Rev. David Bowman officiating. Interment Berlin I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
