Robert Walker Landis

Robert Walker Landis, 91, of Berlin, went to be with the Lord August 22, 2015 at Meadow View Nursing Center. Born October 13, 1923 in Somerset, son of John Dalphon and Miriam (Walker) Landis.
Preceded in death by parents, step mother Cleo (Knepper) Landis, sister Doris and husband Joe Saylor, and brother-in-law Gerald Lowe.
Survived by his wife of 69 years the former Dorothy E. Johnson; children: Barbara married to Marvin Hammond, Port Royal, John married to the former Elaine Baker, Margery married to Gary Will, and Bruce “Chip” married to the former Carolyn Sue McNeal, all of Berlin; grandchildren: Amy (Jason) Hammond-Stong, Mark Hammond, Marvi’jo (Stuart) Farris, John D. (Jesse) Landis, René (Chris) Grenke, Heather (Patrick) Steinbacher, Holly (Bryan) Grasser, Megan Will, Matt (Autumn) Will, Kevin (Lacee) Landis, and Stephanie (Brian) Waydo; 17 great grandchildren; and sisters Elaine Lowe, and Suzanne married to Doran Walker.
He was a W.W. II Marine Corps Veteran having served in the Pacific aboard the U.S.S. Hancock. He received eight battle stars. He returned to Berlin, married, and started a family. He worked numerous jobs in the area, including the family farm and small coal mining operations. Member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Berlin, 70 year member of Berlin American Legion, and longtime member of Berlin Fire Dept.
Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Deaner Funeral Home, Berlin, where service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday. Rev. Dr. John Harmon officiating. Interment Berlin I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Graveside military rites by Berlin Veterans Home. Memorial contributions may be given to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 507 Main St., Berlin, PA 15530.
