Ruth Arlene (Walker) Miller, 85, passed away on July 22, 2017 at her home near Winchester, Virginia. She was born on April 21, 1932 in Somerset, daughter of Dalton Suder Walker and Helen Pearl (Shaffer) Walker. Ruth was one of 11 siblings who grew up on the Dalton Walker Farm in Quemahoning Township. She graduated from Shanksville-Stonycreek High School in 1949. She was a loving mother while also employed at the Friedens Post Office. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, sister Sally Ann Walker, brother Carl Lynn Walker, brother Neil Edward Walker, sister Luella Faye Berkebile, and first husband Jack Milton Metzgar. Ruth is survived by her spouse Lester Miller, Friedens; daughter Sally Ann Miller and husband Bob Compton, Winchester, VA; sons: Terry Lee Metzgar and wife Nancy (Lynch), Berlin, Gregory David Miller and wife Lisa, King George, VA, and Douglas Alan Miller, Hollidaysburg; daughter-in-law Anne Miller, Westmont; grandchildren: Carl Walker Metzgar and wife Molly (Beahr), Catherine Paylor Metzgar, Anna-Marie Miller, Andy Miller, and Alex Miller; great granddaughter Helen Pearl Metzgar; brothers and sisters: Guy Edward (Ruth) Walker, Lois Jean Neff , Glenn Shaffer (Shirley) Walker, Dean Jay (Sally) Walker, Nancy Ann (Warren) Cox, and Linda Lee Walker; sister-in-law Elaine Walker; aunt Eileen (Shaffer) Knupp; two step granddaughters: Catherine (Raymond) Torres, Austin, TX, and Susan (David) Reeves, Ponte Vedra, FL; and seven step great grandchildren. Family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until service at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Friedens Lutheran Church. Rev. Edward V. DeVore officiating. Interment at the Friedens Lutheran Church Cemetery on Custer Hill. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to the Friedens Lutheran Church Pastor’s Discretionary Fund 131 S.
