Ruth S. Platt, 89, of Berlin, died Jan. 8, 2018 at home. Born Oct. 16, 1928 in Boswell, daughter of Vernon and Edna (Baker) Shockey. Preceded in death by parents, husband Clyde, son Gary Wayne, daughter in-law Barbara Platt, brothers Dale and Jay Shockey, and sisters Betty Shockey and Dorothy Schmucker. Survived by children: Alan Clyde, New Providence, David Leroy, Meyersdale, Roger Lynn married to the former Jayne Hittie, Berlin, and Brian Jay married to the former Donna Tranavich, Hollsopple; grandchildren: Sharon (Dan) Speicher, Steven (Susie) Platt, Matthew (Jennifer) Platt, Jamie (Erin) Platt, Nicole (Brad) Walters, Justin (Missy) Platt, Amanda (Carla) Platt-McClean, Daniel (Tessa) Platt, and Cody Platt; great grandchildren: Braden, Haylee, Samuel, Delainey, Marianna, Meredith, Aiden, Kolton, Bennet, Caroline, Leahana, Kenleigh, Macy, and Jackson; brother Roy Shockey, Friedens; sisters: Jean Walker, Somerset, and Janet Gulliver, Friedens: and sisters in-law: Ada Shockey and Paulette Jenkins, both of Friedens. Graduate of Somerset Twp. High School. She was the co-owner of Sandy Hollow Dairy, the family farm. Member of Berlin Christian and Missionary Alliance Church where she sang in the choir, Somerset Senior Extension, and treasurer of the Pike Cemetery Assoc. She enjoyed working in her yard, reading, feeding birds, cooking, and baking pies. Family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Deaner Funeral Home, Berlin, where service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday. Rev. Jim Kunes officiating. Interment Brotherton Pike Cemetery.
