Virgil Dan Berkebile

Virgil Dan Berkebile, 82, of Ruffs Dale formerly of Stoystown and Friedens, died November 7, 2016 at Harmon House Care Center, Mt. Pleasant. Born June 12, 1934 in Stoystown, son of Lewis and Beulah (Hemminger) Berkebile. Preceded in death by parents, brothers Morris and Fred, sister Alice Winner, mother and father-in-law Frances and Frank Benko, niece Diane Brant, and nephew Richard Miller. Survived by wife of 53 years the former June Benko; sister Gleneve Hann, Somerset; niece and nephew: Pam (Mike) Murphy and Barry (Ruth) Miller; cousins: Matthew John and Elaine Rypczyk, Nicole, Jeremy, and Mirabelle Bryson; god son John Matthew Rypczyk; special friends Rich (Carol) Wagner; god daughter Tessa (Craig) Howard and children Jude, Timmy, Christina; friends: Samuel (Rachel) Wagner and son Richie, Rose (Daniel) Maddox and daughter Lila, and Barry Lynn (Cathy) Baer and daughter Alexis. He worked for Bethlehem Steel, U.S. Steel, Beatrice Foods, and was a retired custodian for North Star School District. Member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Somerset, and a 50+ year member of the Stoystown Lions Club. After his retirement, Virgil and his wife June were dedicated care givers for Alexis Baer, Taylor Miller, Anthony Knecht, and Paige, Luke and Eve Housley. A Lions Club service will be held at 10:45 a.m. Friday Nov. 25th at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Somerset, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Father Daniel J. O’Neill officiating.
