William H. ‘Bill” Ringler, 95, Berlin, died Feb. 7, 2017 at home surrounded by loved ones. Born Dec. 12, 1921 in Stonycreek Twp., son of Austin and Mae (Menser) Ringler. Preceded in death by parents; wife of 59 years, the former Mildred Moore who died in 2001; sister and brother-in-law Elmira Jane and Leon Knepper; and special friend Helen Weigle. Survived by son, James W. (Bonnie) Ringler, Berlin, and daughter Esther (James) Mowry, Somerset; grandchildren: Joyce (Robert) Hoffman, Douglas Ringler, Richard (Annie) Ringler, Jennifer Metzgar, Robert Mowry and girlfriend Jenna Altobelli, and Maria Mowry; great grandchildren: Jacob, Jonathan, and Jamie Ringler, Melissa Ringler and friend Josh Jones, Bradley and Allyson Hoffman, and William Dunmyer. He was a 1938 graduate of Shanksville-Stonycreek High School. He was a retired dairy, grain, hay, and potato farmer, and was the seventh generation owner of the family farm. Member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Berlin, where he served as a Sunday school teacher for many years and was a Lutheran lay minister throughout the county. A 73 year member of Wills Grange. He was a member of the grange on a local, state and national level, and served as the PA State Grange Master for four years. Also a member of the Sons of the American Revolution and was an Honorary State FFA Degree member. Bill served on the Somerset R.E.C. Board of Directors and the Penn State Board of Trustees. He was the 1969 PA Granger of the Year, 1974 PA Master Farmer’s Award winner, 1974 Good Year Soil Conservation award winner, 1988 Somerset County Chamber of Commerce Outstanding Person of the Year recipient, and was recognized for over 50 consecutive years of voting. He was a farmer in his heart until the day he died. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be remembered as a special friend to many people. Bill’s family would like to thank all of his caregivers for their loving attention. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Deaner Funeral Home, Berlin. Viewing from 10 a.m. until service at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Berlin. Pastor Scott Baker officiating. Interment Somerset County Memorial Park.
