William Alexander Merrill

William Alexander Merrill, 79, Berlin, died March 13, 2024 at home. Born July 16, 1944 in Chandler, AZ, son of William Merrill II and Jeanne (Stevens) Merrill Coleman. Preceded in death by parents and sister Cynthia Coleman. Survived by his wife of 57 years, the former Nancy Combecker; children: Martie (Tim) Sprowls, Cece (April) Merrill, Tina (Andy) Phillips, Heather McCauley (Bill Washabaugh), Kris (Delmas) Brick, Gerren (Daymond) Wagner, and Billy (Lorinda) Merrill; grandchildren: Brogan McCauley, Joel (Sydney) Sprowls, Grace (Geancarlo) Vargas, Jordan, Riley, and Olivia Brick, Arlo and Owen Wagner, Cody Phillips, and Cora Merrill; great grandson Shea Sprowls; brother Mike Merrill, and first cousin Lee (Kathy) Stevens. He received his B.S. Degree from the University of Arizona. He was a Project Manager for Callimont Development and blasting technician for Ponfeigh Coal Company. Former board member of First National Bank of Garrett and affiliates. 50+ year member and longtime secretary of Berlin Volunteer Fire Department and former treasurer of Berlin Ambulance Association. Former 4-H leader, an avid pilot, motorcyclist, amateur photographer, and poet. He loved music, especially “House of the Rising Sun”, dancing, western movies and shows, poker, Star Trek, trains, and April Fools’ jokes. No viewing or service.
