Donald James Hagans

Donald James Hagans, 94, Kantner, died Jan. 3, 2018 at Somerset Hospital. Born March 12, 1923 in Kantner, son of James Henry and Mary Myrtle (Croyle) Hagans. Preceded in death by parents, brothers Dean Hagans and Ray Paul, and sister Ida Jock. Survived by his wife of 68 years, the former Opal I. Rose; children: Donald Eugene, Nancy Darlene, and Marilyn Sue; and several nieces and nephews. He was a 1939 graduate of Stoystown High School and was a World War II Army veteran. Former coal miner, construction worker, substitute teacher at Somerset Vo-Tech, and former Quemahoning Twp. Supervisor. Member of Reading Grace Brethren Church, Stoyestown Area Historical Society, and founding member of Quemahoning Rod and Gun Club. He was a former member of Kantner Assembly of God where he taught Sunday School for 37 years. He enjoyed photography, writing poetry and articles for the newspaper and historical society. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Deaner Funeral Home, Stoystown where service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday. Rev. Larry Weigle and Rev.
