G. Dean Metzgar, 92, Stoystown (Reading Mines), died April 28, 2019 at The Patriot. Born Nov. 24, 1926 in Stoystown, son of George Phillip and Ada Blanche (Lohr) Metzgar. Preceded in death by parents, sister Eva “Peggy” Foy, and son-in-law Terry Sarver. Survived by his wife of 72 years the former Mary Catherine Steckman; children: Terry and wife Sandi, Jonesborough, TN, Kim and wife Kathy, Wellsboro, Kathy Sarver, Friedens, and Marianne Fisher and husband Barry, Somerset; grandchildren: Michelle (Robert) Bolen, Scott (Sarah) Metzgar, Todd (Jayme) Metzgar, Shawn Sarver, Kimberly (Pete) Metzgar, Kristi (Kris) Fry, Jennifer (Mark) Banner, and Jordan (Emily) Metzgar; and 14 great grandchildren. He was a graduate of Stoystown High School and a World War II Navy Veteran. Retired millwright from Bethlehem Steel-Franklin Works, and a former school bus driver for North Star School District-Griffith Transportation. Charter member of Reading Grace Brethren Church and honorary member of Tatman Run Hunting Camp. He enjoyed bluegrass and hunting. He loved his family and his granddogs, but most of all he loved the Lord and lived his faith. A private family service will be held at the convenience of the family. Rev. Larry Weigle officiating.
