Joan E. Shaffer, 82, of Beaver formerly of Hooversville, died Jan. 9, 2018 at Brighton Rehab and Wellness Center, Beaver. Born June 6, 1935 in Hooversville, daughter of Wilbert C. and Toylie (Snyder) Shaffer. Preceded in death by parents, brothers Glenn (Emily), and Gary (Millie) Shaffer, twin sister Janet (Bob) Taylor, and foster brother Robert Hay. Survived by foster sister Emmie (Tom) Costa, Windber; and several nieces and nephews. She was a 1953 graduate of Forbes High School and enjoyed working on the family farm. Joan was gifted in many ways including being a barber in Stoystown, an accomplished artist, pianist, and surely enjoyed collecting antiques. Former member of Hooversville Church of the Brethren. Family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until service at 3 p.m. Friday at Deaner Funeral Home, Stoystown. Rev. Stanley Pisarski officiating. Interment Berkey Cemetery, Windber.
