Miriam Stephens Obituary

Miriam Sembower Stephens, 95, Berlin, formerly of Somerset, died Dec. 17, 2019 at Meadow View Nursing Center. She was born in Garrett, daughter of Jacob and Edna (Haer) Christner. Preceded in death by parents, beloved husbands John Sembower (in 1958) and Howard Stephens (in 1990), brothers Harold, Tom, Sprawles, and Mack Christner, and sisters Hazel Hoover and Barbara Meyers. Survived by daughter Jane Sembower Brandt and husband Walter, New Market, MD; sisters Arlene Houston, Nancy (Donald) Stoner, and Mary (Barry) Hanks, and always devoted niece Debbie Meyers. She was beloved by many nieces, nephews, step grandchildren, and step great grandchildren. Miriam retired as an underwriter from the Rockwood Insurance Company where she worked for 26 years. She loved quilting and making other handcrafted items. She was a member of the Eastern Star for over 50 years. Miriam enjoyed weekly Saturday morning breakfasts with neighbors and friends. She requested that there be no viewing or services. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be forwarded to Meyersdale Church of the Brethren, 9 Beachley St., Meyersdale, PA 15552.
