Ruby Ellen (Mutz) Berkebile

Ruby Ellen Berkebile, 70, Friedens, went to be with her Lord August 19, 2018. Born August 1, 1948 in Somerset, daughter of Frank and Ruby (Fleagle) Mutz. Preceded in death by parents, beloved son Jeffrey Scott, and brother-in-law Lynn Berkebile. Survived by her loving husband of 51 years Larry D. Berkebile, Friedens; wonderful daughter Penny Sue, Stoystown; sisters: Connie (Don) Slickerman, Stoystown, and Debbie Sue Mutz (Tammy Yoder), Friedens, sister-in-law Janet Berkebile; numerous nieces and nephews; and forever friend Jody Shockey. She was a 1966 graduate of Forbes High School and a graduate of University of Pittsburgh, Johnstown. She started work as a telephone operator for GTE and then taught for 32 years at Friedens Elementary School. Ruby had a passion for teaching children to read and sharing children’s literature. She loved spending time with her family, scrapbooking, traveling, reading, spending time on her front porch, and using her gift of hospitality to entertain others. Member of Somerset Alliance Church where she served as a Deaconess and leader of a small group bible study, and Stoystown Lioness Club, having served several terms as president, and was a Melvin Jones Fellow recipient. She also served as co-president of the Somerset County Reading Council for several years. The family would like to give a special thanks to the “Angels” at Somerset Oncology and Somerset Hospice. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Deaner Funeral Home, Stoystown, where a Lioness Service will be held at 8 p.m. Viewing from 4 p.m. until service at 6 p.m. Thursday at Somerset Alliance Church.
