Ruth Elizabeth (Will) Romesberg

Ruth Elizabeth Will Romesberg, 95, of Berlin passed away peacefully at Windber Hospice on Jan. 6, 2020. Born in Stonycreek Township to the late John H. Will and Carrie (Boyer) Will, she married WWII Marine, Roy J. Romesberg in 1946.  She is preceded in death by her husband, infant son Darrell, brother Eugene Will, and sister Evelyn W. Altfather. She is survived by her children: Gale R. Hay (Larry) and Ron Romesberg (Vicki Lobaugh) of Berlin; Melanie R. Oppat (Craig) of Westminster, MD; and Randall Romesberg (Robyn Graboski) of Port Matilda.  Ruth was proud of her grandchildren: Kris, Kelby, Cassandra, Renea, Erin, Ronnie, Ryan, Rylan; 10 great-grandchildren; and her nieces and nephews. Ruth graduated from Shanksville-Stonycreek School District in 1942 and—as an accomplished pianist—taught students and played for varied events.  As a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ in Berlin, she sang in Christmas cantatas and played English Handbells.  Examples of her community work include serving as Forbes Road DAR Regent, Somerset County Extension Board member, Berlin Historical Society member, PTA president, and 4-H leader.  Over the years, she also held several administrative positions while raising four children and helping to manage the family’s poultry farm. She retired as payroll clerk from Berlin Brothersvalley School District. Ballroom dancing, square dancing, and playing cards were some of Ruth’s favorite activities.  When not spending memorable time with grandkids, she also enjoyed travel that took her to every continent except Antarctica. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Deaner Funeral Home, Berlin.  Viewing from 9 a.m. until service at 10 a.m. Saturday at Trinity United Church of Christ, Berlin.
