Steve P. Jano, 79, Berlin, died June 26, 2019 at home. Born Feb. 13, 1940 in “Sheep Ridge” Somerset, son of Steve and Florence (Lepley) Jano. Preceded in death by parents, sister Helen, brother Clyde, and brothers-in-law Eugene “Bud” Weigle and Harold Hutchens. Survived by his loving wife of 57 years the former Margie Chizek; children: Stephanie (Ed Slifco) Jano, Berlin, and Steve J. married to the former Cassandra Mort, Duncansville; grandchildren: Teresa “Tessa” (Paul) McClucas, Lewistown, and Samantha “Sami” Slifco, Berlin; great grandchildren: Patrick, Tyler, Arianna and Ella; siblings: Betty (Fred) Shaulis, Catherine “Kitty” Hutchens, Joe (Donna), Tony (Diana), Martha (Bob) Webb, Sue Webb, and Theresa (Bob) Fitzgerald; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was a 1958 graduate of Somerset High School and attended a meat cutting school in Toledo, OH. He began a union career as a meat cutter and sold insurance while living in Cleveland, OH. In 1972 he moved home to Somerset County and started his business, Jano Construction, until recent retirement. Member of St. Gregory’s Roman Catholic Church, Macdonaldton. An amazing man, Steve enjoyed many interests such as hunting, fishing, gardening, Sudoku, jigsaw puzzles and especially golfing with his son and friends. He certainly kept his guardian angels busy and lived life to its fullest! He will always be remembered for his bear hugs, firm hand shakes and stories he told that made laughter erupt from everyone. Forever loved, he will be greatly missed by all. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Deaner Funeral Home, Berlin where a vigil service will be held at 2 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church, Macdonaldton.
