William H. Shaver, 96, Somerset, passed away Dec. 1, 2019 at Siemon’s Heritage Personal Care Center. Born Aug. 16, 1923 in Hooversville, son of John P. and Elsie Pearl (Gindlesperger) Shaver. Preceded in death by parents, first wife the former Dorothy Louise Gindlesperger, second wife the former Dorothy Metzger, daughter Ruth Ann Speicher, daughter-in-law Carol (Rayman) Shaver, brothers: Merle, Charles, and Richard Shaver, and sister Edna Hoover. Survived by daughter Gloria Jean (Terry) Welker, Seven Valleys; sons: William E. (Marsha) Shaver, Cumberland, MD, and Randy D. (Sharon Brantmeier) Shaver, Fitchburg, WI; son-in-law Mark Speicher, Friedens; grandchildren: Mark Speicher, Brenda Gerhardt, Bradley Speicher, Darren Welker, Dana McGurk, Jeff Shaver, Mike Shaver, Allison Haas, and Elizabeth Shaver; nine great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren. William was a lifelong dairy and crop farmer in Friedens before moving to Somerset where he continued to grow his vegetables and beautiful flowers into his 90’s. He retired from Coleman Co., Somerset. Active member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Stoystown, and a member of the Stoystown Lions Club. He greatly enjoyed his family, especially at the annual summer gatherings which often celebrated his birthdays, and the Stoystown Lions Club. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Deaner Funeral Home, Stoystown, where a Lions Service will be held at 6 p.m. Viewing from 10 a.m. until a Funeral Service at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Paul’s U.C.C., Stoystown.
