Betty Jo (O'Roark) Gavlak

Betty Jo Gavlak, 72, Johnstown, formerly of Elton, died Aug. 6, 2019 at Memorial Medical Center, Johnstown. Born May 2, 1947 in Stoystown, daughter of Joseph and Ruth (Metzgar) O’Roark. Preceded in death by parents and brother Jack O’Roark. Survived by her husband of 51 years, Thomas; children: Steven (Larissa) Gavlak, Elton, Stephanie (Brian) Hockensmith, Upper Yoder, and Heather (Charles) Weinzierl, Summerhill; grandchildren: Tanner and Sarah Gavlak, Alex and Leah Hockensmith, and Kayla, Joshua, and Blake Weinzierl; 3 step granddaughters; brother James O’Roark; sisters-in-law Susan O’Roark and Anna (Donald) Ross; brother-in-law John (Kathy) Gavlak; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was a 1965 graduate of Forbes High School. Member of the Stoystown American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed Bingo, gambling, playing cards, and her dog Abbie. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Deaner Funeral Home, Stoystown, where service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday. Pastor Sharon Fox officiating.
