Betty Laverne Hay, 81, of Garrett, died Feb. 9, 2021 at home. Born Aug. 18, 1939 in Summit Twp., daughter of Homer and Margretta (Boyer) Fike. Preceded in death by parents and brother Tom Fike. Survived by husband of 63 years Harold E.; children: Cathy (Doug) Custer, Sharon (Kevin) Fochtman, and Keith Hay and special friend Elly McKenzie; grandchildren: Jody (Steven) Berkey, Angela (Nathan) Miller, Kyle (Christie) Fochtman, Keisha (Ben) Hay, and Geordan, Cannon, and Carlyn Hay; great grandchildren: Carter, Elijah, Amyah, Maelyn, Mason, Cameron, and Brody; and sister Eva Weyant. She attended Meyersdale High School. Betty was a retired Certified Nurse’s Aide at the former Maple Mountain Manor, did private duty care, and also worked on the family farm. Member of Joyful Church, Valley Grange, Knotty Knotters, and the Maple Swingers square dancing group. She enjoyed cooking, baking, collecting recipes, gardening, and spending time with her family and church family. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Deaner Funeral Home, Berlin. Viewing from 9:30 a.m. until service at 10 a.m. Saturday at Joyful Church, 2425 Garrett Short Cut Rd., Garrett, PA 15542. Masks and social distancing are required. Rev. Tim Vaughn officiating.
