Betty Jean (Onstead) Simmons

Betty Jean Simmons, 86, Somerset formerly of Berlin, died January 6, 2024 at Heritage Ridge Senior Living, Johnstown. Born January 15, 1937 in Berlin, daughter of Ernest and Ethel (Weigle) Onstead. Preceded in death by parents, husband Paul, and infant great grandson Zephaniah Simmons. Survived by sons:  Rodney (Sue), Paul D. (Connie), and Michael (Marcie) Simmons; nine grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and brothers: James (Martha) and Edward (Janet) Onstead. She was a 1954 graduate of Shanksville Stonycreek High School. Former employee of Snyder of Berlin and was most recently a self-employed housekeeper. Member of Faith Lutheran Church, Somerset where she sang in the choir and belonged to the Farm Women’s group. She enjoyed sewing and knitting. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Deaner Funeral Home, Berlin, where service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday. Rev. Kathleen Stump officiating.
