Carl A. Hay, Jr., 82, Fairhope, died November 27, 2024 at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital. Born March 24, 1942 in Meyersdale, son of Carl Sr. and Marjorie (Meyers) Hay. Preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 52 years the former Betty Arlene Keefer. Survived by children: Dwayne (Joy) Hay and Carla (Andrew) Chonko; grandchildren: Alex (Britney), Jackson (special friend Taylor), Gabrielle (special friend Noah), Sarah, Josiah (special friend Raley), Ashley (Bill), Autumn (special friend Dillon), Andrew, August, and Angel; great granddaughter Maggie; and sister Karen Glessner. He was a 1960 graduate of Berlin Brothersvalley High School and was a member of the Army Reserve during the Vietnam Era. Carl was a lifelong dairy farmer, helped construct Rt. 219 and the Allegheny Tunnel, worked at PPG, and helped his son on the family farm after retiring. He considered the New Holland skid steer to be his office. As a member of New Hope Church, he served as an elder, sang in the choir, and served as consistory president. He was a man of deep faith and love for his church and family. More recently, he attended Hostetler Church of the Brethren. Former board member of Somerset REC. Member of Berlin Area Historical Society and SAR. Carl played his Martin guitar in the Mountain Sound Bluegrass Band for many years. He enjoyed cruises with his wife and her brother Paul and sister-in-law Sandy. He also enjoyed attending conferences across the county as an REC Director. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Deaner Funeral Home Berlin where services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday. Rev. Jay Shaffer and Rev. Kaitie Coughenour officiating. Military Honors at the funeral home provided by the Somerset County Honor Guard. Interment Mt. Lebanon Cemetery, Glencoe.
