Catherine Ruth "Katy" (Tirko) Rininger

Catherine Ruth “Katy” Rininger, 85, Stoystown, died January 28, 2025 at home. Born November 16, 1939 in Hooversville, daughter of the late Joseph Jr. and Verda (Umberger) Tirko. Survived by her husband of 67 years, Barry A.; sons: Richard, Barry Scott (LeeAnn), and Mark (Robin); daughters: Tina (Michael) Kaydo and Gina (Lee Barkley); 10 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; and brothers: Robert, Joseph (Jennifer), William (Mary Weigle), and Randy (Leah) Tirko. She was a 1957 graduate of Forbes High School. Katy was a former school bus driver and DAV van driver, and was the former co-owner of Beaver Creek Inn, Stoystown and Bonanza Tavern, Central City. Member of Kantner United Methodist Church and Stoystown American Legion Auxiliary. To those who she loved the most, Catherine was known lovingly as “Katy,” “Mom,” and “Peepers.” Katy lit up any room she walked into, but not in the traditional sense you would think of. She lit up the room with the fire inside of her, and she used that fire to fiercely love and protect those who were closest to her. Her family came to know and love the warmth that her fire brought into every holiday, reunion, wedding, event, and lazy afternoon that they were lucky enough to share with her. They will fondly remember her famous hugs; hugs where she squeezed them tight and never wanted to let go, and they will never be able to listen to another Elvis song without thinking of the lasting impact she made on the lives of those she shared her love with. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Deaner Funeral Home, Stoystown, where service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday. Rev. Rich Pearson officiating.
