Cynthia “Cindy” Bittner Barron, 59, of Somerset, passed peacefully February 10, 2019, at UPMC Shadyside surrounded by loved ones. Born May 17, 1959 in Somerset, daughter of Robert and Dorothy (Pile) Bittner. Preceded in death by parents, and sisters Susan (Andy) VonDolteren and Susanne (Bob) Zatko. Survived by her husband of 35 years Charlie; children: Kayla (Ryan) Krause, Andrew, Elizabeth, and Julie; grandchildren: Alex and Sophia Krause; brother Craig Bittner and Kim (Lorry) Bittner; and many loving nieces and nephews. She was a 1977 graduate of North Star High School and received her BSN in 1981 from Carlow College School of Nursing. Cindy worked at Lee Hospital Emergency Room, Community Health and Somerset Area School District as a school nurse. She was an active member of Friedens Lutheran Church and Somerset County School Nurses Association. Cindy felt “Life was a gift” which she shared through her generosity and acts of kindness to all she encountered and loved. Friends and family will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Friedens Lutheran Church. Viewing from 10 a.m. until service at 11 a.m. Friday at Friedens Lutheran Church. Rev. Doug Knupp and Rev. Edward V. DeVore officiating. Interment Somerset County Memorial Park. Cindy has requested that a scholarship fund for future nurses be established.
