Donald Ohler Obituary

Donald “Doc” L. Ohler, 83, Berlin, passed away June 19, 2025. Doc was born May 31, 1942 in Somerset. He was the son of Irvin & Anna Catherine (Miller) Ohler. He was married to the late Phyllis Ohler (Raupach) for 46 years. They raised a daughter Laura, married to Dr. Kirk Schrock of Somerset along with son Joseph Ohler & significant other Tammy Gindlesperger, Berlin. He was a very proud Pap to his two grandsons, Jack and Samuel Schrock. He is survived by his two sisters, Carol (Larry) Baughman, JoAnn (Jay) Buratty, sisters-in-law, Jane (Jack) Keller, MaryAnn (Lynn) Mankamyer and numerous nieces & nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, wife Phyllis, six brothers: Roy, Leo, William, Harold, Eugene & Elmer, three sisters: Violet, Virginia & Betty and brother-in-law Richard Raupach. Doc was a 1961 graduate of Berlin Brothersvalley High School where he excelled at playing football, basketball & baseball. Doc proudly served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam War in Texas. After retiring from PennDOT, Doc & Phyllis enjoyed his retirement playing softball in Daytona Beach, Florida & traveling with his team the Syracuse Cyclones to Las Vegas, Nevada were the team won the Senior USA World Softball Championship, Eastern & Nationals to become rarely designated “Triple Crown” winners. Doc & his teammates have their names engraved on a special World Series cup in the Senior Softball Hall of Fame in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He retired from playing softball at the age of 76. Doc’s most recent years were enjoyed with his many trips to the cabin, watching his grandsons grow & spending time with his family & friends who will all surely miss him so much. He was a member of the New Baltimore Sportsman’s Club and Berlin VFW. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Deaner Funeral Home, Berlin. Viewing from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. service & military funeral honors on Monday at the funeral home. Rev. Sam Coughenour officiating. Interment Mt. Lebanon Cemetery, Glencoe.
