Dorothy Kaminsky Obituary

Dorothy Ann (Kubas) Kaminsky, 72, Stoystown, entered the arms of the angels on December 11, 2022, at her home surrounded by her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, her father-in-law Anthony Kaminsky Sr., and her mother-in-law Elizabeth (Zoldey) Kaminsky. Born November 10, 1950, in Somerset, Dorothy was the first child born to Frank and Eleanor (Maluchnik) Kubas. She would eventually become the big sister to seven siblings. Dorothy enjoyed growing up in the small town of Wilbur with her younger siblings, and stayed strong for all of them when their mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. When Eleanor passed away in 1972, Dorothy—who was almost 21 at the time—helped Frank care for his large family. Given her kindhearted nature and nurturing spirit, Dorothy took on this motherly role with strength and courage. Dorothy married Anthony Kaminsky on June 30, 1973; shortly thereafter, they moved out of Wilbur and into their beautiful home on Bicycle Road. Dorothy worked at Oneida in The Georgian Place, for a daycare center, as a personal care aide, and as a van driver, transporting children with special needs to and from school. In her spare time, she enjoyed watching TV with Tony, shopping and dining with her sisters and nieces, spending time with her father, and talking on the phone with her loved ones. Every Friday evening for decades, Dorothy and her family members would gather at Frank’s house in Wilbur to visit with one another. In her later years, Dorothy and her husband embarked on many cruises. They traveled to the Bahamas, Bermuda, and other tropical destinations, including her favorite, Puerto Rico. Each journey was an opportunity to relax, make new friends, and see the world. They also went on some exciting bus trips, traveling to New York, Canada, and Tennessee, among other states. Over the past ten years, Dorothy savored the company of her little great-nieces and great-nephews—Amare, Ivan, Oli, Adi, and Aliyah—giving them temporary tattoos, bubbles, and dollar bills in exchange for as many hugs as she could get. Dorothy didn’t let her years-long battle against two different types of cancer define her; she fought hard—just like her mother. Those who knew Dorothy admired her determination. They also appreciated her generosity, compassion, and thoughtfulness. Dorothy, for instance, never forgot a birthday; she was the type of person who always put a card in the mail a few days early so she could be certain that it arrived on time. Dorothy loved chocolate, jewelry, good novels, soap operas, oldies music, and watching the birds that visited her feeders. Most of all, she loved her family and friends; she will be forever missed and adoringly remembered by: devoted husband of 49 years, Tony; brother Frank Jr. “Jake” and sister-in-law Susie Kubas; brother Michael and sister-in-law Kathy Kubas; sister Patricia and brother-in-law Benji Huzsek; sister MaryAnn and brother-in-law Greg Pongrac; sister Bernadette and brother-in-law Carey Rankin; brother Stanley Kubas; brother Steven and sister-in-law Bernice Kubas; sister-in-law June, and numerous special cousins and friends, including Valerie Kennell and Penny Berkebile. Dorothy was the most incredible aunt to: Sherry, Chris (Rita), Amy (Mike), April (Drew), Chace, Kayla (Eric), Chelsey (Ben), Aaron (Bethany), Shane (Emily), Skylor (Randi), Adam (Jenna), Alexander, and a beloved great-aunt to: Parish, Bryce (Tim), McKenna (Jordan), Amare, Ivan, Oliver, Adiley, Aliyah, and baby Rankin. In Dorothy’s and Tony’s house hangs a sign that reads: “Cherish your family for they are your treasure, a storehouse of riches, wealth beyond measure.” In many ways, Dorothy was the matriarch of her family, and they are all taking comfort in knowing that she is in Heaven, cancer-free, and wrapped in her parents’ warm embrace. If you would like to make a monetary donation in Dorothy’s memory, please contribute to Holy Family Catholic Church or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Arrangements have been entrusted to Deaner Funeral Home. A viewing will be held for friends and family at Deaner Funeral Home in Stoystown on Thursday, December 15, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. A vigil service is scheduled for 7:45 p.m. that evening. A devout Catholic, Dorothy attended church at Holy Family Catholic Church in Hooversville throughout her life, and that is where her funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, December 16, with Reverend Aron Maghsoudi serving as celebrant. Dorothy will be laid to rest near her parents at Holy Family Church Cemetery. Dorothy’s loved ones will comfort one another in the same way they all know she would comfort them. She always gave her friends and family unconditional love, encouragement, and support. If Dorothy loved you, you didn’t just know it—you felt it. Her loving presence enriched her family’s lives, and their precious memories of her will carry them onward. DeanerFuneralsAndCremations.com
