Earnest Blair “Ernie” Smith, 87, Berlin, died Sept. 5, 2020 at home after a prolonged battle with cancer. Born Nov. 5, 1932 in Windber (Paint Twp.), son of Herlen and Bessie (Weible) Smith. Preceded in death by parents, wife of 54 years the former Hazel Conn, son Dale Smith, sister Leoris Ogline and brother David “Larry” Smith. Survived by daughter Wanda (Randy) Bussard, Berlin; grandchildren Alexis (Carey) Lewis, VA and Jared (Ashley Amabile) Bussard, CO; great grandchildren Mac and Evelyn Lewis; sisters Dorothy (Don) Kelley, AR, and Betty (Ralph) Beaver, OH; and brothers Leroy (Georgia) Smith, OH and Herlen “Cub” Smith, CO. He was a graduate of Shanksville-Stonycreek High School and a Korean War Army veteran. He was retired from Somerset Welding and Steel (J & J Truck Bodies). He attended Beachdale Church of the Brethren. Member of the VFW and the Berlin Area Historical Society. He enjoyed golfing, Sudoku puzzles, and helping others. Family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until service at 3 p.m. Saturday at Beachdale Church of the Brethren which will be live-streamed on the Deaner Funeral Home Facebook page. Rev.
