Ethel Zimmerman Obituary

Ethel F. “Fredi” Zimmerman, age 94 ended her journey on January 13, 2021 at Pleasant Meadows Senior Living in Chrisman, Illinois.  Fredi was born February 20, 1926  in Laurel, Maryland, the daughter of Marion Ellery Moore and Florence Lillian (Manuel) Moore. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband John Henry Zimmerman of Hooversville, Pennsylvania. Also, her sisters Ruth Moore Kress and husband Edward, Virginia Moore Calavan, Gloria Lillian Moore Belt and husband Orville, brother Joseph and wife Barbara, and son-in-law Gene Stelcik. She is survived and loved by her daughters  Leslye G. Stelick, Whitney (Bob) Leal, both of  Fullerton, California,  Paige (Ken) Brooks of Chrisman, Illinois, sons, Todd (Vicki) Payton, and Blair (Leisa) Payton of Laurel, Maryland. “GG” left behind 9 grandchildren, 11 great grand children, 2 great great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly. She grew up in Laurel Maryland were she graduated from Laurel Sr. High in 1944. She was honored as Best Female Athlete in 1944. Standing only 5 foot tall she was the captain of the basketball team . After school, while in the midst of WWII, she worked in Washington D.C. After raising a family she went to work at the D.C. Children’s Center in Laurel, Maryland were she retired. She then moved to Hooversville, Pennsylvania.  There she was a member of the Lions Club and VFW, and also the Stoystown American Legion.  She loved helping with Easter Egg Hunts, dressing up for Halloween and judging the kids. Private graveside service to be held at the convenience of the family. Rev. Felicia Swartz officiating. Arrangements entrusted to Deaner Funeral Home, Stoystown.
