George N. Baer

George N. Baer, 83, of Somerset, died March 31, 2023 at home. Born May 14, 1939 in Friedens, son of George F. and Mary (Weighley) Baer. Preceded in death by parents, brother John Baer, and sisters: Dorothy Judy, Sara Mae Creech, and Emma Jane Weible. Survived by wife of 61 years the former Bonnie Shaffer; daughters: Susan (Andrew) Meier and Lisa (Mark) Harris; grandchildren: Amanda (Chris Harto) Shaffer, Sarah (Bobby Johnson) Meier, Vicki (Chris) Rouse, Andy Meier, Jeff (Kelcey) Meier, Neilan (Ashley) Harris, and Brady Harris; great grandchildren: Ruby and Lilly Johnson, Cayden, Charlie, and Archer Rouse, and Caroline, Clayton, Bennett, and Easton Harris; brothers: Bob and Allen (Sandy) Baer; sister Phyllis (Albert) Beal. He was a 1957 graduate of Somerset High School and was the owner/operator of Baer Bottoms Farm and Baer Brothers Maple Camp. Member of Geiger Church of the Brethren. He enjoyed going to the sugar camp, hunting, being a prankster, telling stories, and spending time with his family. Family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until a memorial service at 11 a.m. Friday at Geiger Church of the Brethren. Rev. John Stoner and Rev. Linda Stoner officiating.
