Georgiana "Jan" Riddell Zimmerman

Georgiana “Jan” Riddell Zimmerman, 94, formerly of Stoystown, passed away peacefully at The Patriot, Somerset, on Aug. 8, 2020. She was the wife of the late Samuel H. Zimmerman who died Feb. 22, 1990. They were married Aug. 7, 1948 in Allentown. Born May 30, 1926 in Johnstown, she was the daughter of the late George G. and Margaret Kathryn (Repp) Riddell. In addition to her husband and parents, Jan is preceded in death by brothers John, Frank, Richard Lee, and Gary Riddell; and sisters Dorothy Evans, Ruth Wentz, Jenny Lou Rodger, and Linda Dawson. She is survived by three children, Jeffrey R. and friend Cathy Keith, Winifred L. married to David Ebersole, and Samuel H. II married to the former Janalee Addleman. She is also survived by nine grandchildren: LeAnn, Carly (Travis), Russ (Elyse), Kylee (Gary), Zack (Lindsey), Katie (Nate), Sammy, Joe (Kaleigh), and Jordan (Olivia); five great granddaughters, Maddie, Ila, Brinlee, Lydia, and Ayla; four great grandsons, Max, Drew, Cole, and Henrik; sister Lois Coleman, sisters-in-law Joy Zimmerman, Joan Zimmerman, and Verdean Zimmerman; brother-in-law Thomas H. Zimmerman, and very good friend Peg Mong. Jan graduated from Stoystown High School in 1944. She was employed at the former N.B.W.P., Stoystown, as a teller for 16 years. She was also a notary public and wrote the “Stoystown News” for the Somerset Daily American. She was a life member of Grace Lutheran Church in Stoystown where she was a member of the choir, altar guild, memorial committee, and LCW. She belonged to the Stoyestown Area Historical Society and also delivered Meals on Wheels. Jan enjoyed music, travel, crossword puzzles, classic movies and musicals, Wednesday morning prayer group and coffee at Nancy’s with her dear friends. “Gram” was always loving and proud of her many grandchildren and enjoyed visiting with them or chatting over the phone. Both of which always ended with “Hey Hun, I do love you.” Family will receive friends from 2 until a Celebration of Life Memorial Service at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 6 at Grace Lutheran Church, Stoystown.
