Gerald E. “Blackie” Carpenter Sr., 85, of Friedens, died August 19, 2023 at Windber Hospice. Born April 7, 1938 in Boswell, son of Gerald H. and Josephine (Gowarty) Carpenter. Preceded in death by parents, loving son Gerald E. “Punk” Carpenter Jr., brother Robert Carpenter, and sister Linda McVicker. Survived by his loving wife and best friend of 63 years the former Betty Gerney; loving son Barry Carpenter; daughter-in-law Michele Carpenter; grandchildren: Casey and Zach Carpenter; brother Gary “Goose” Carpenter; and numerous sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was a 1956 graduate of Jenner Boswell Joint High School. Gerald worked in numerous industries before becoming a partner in Somerset Well Drilling in 1971, he operated the business for 40 years. Member of Kennel’s Mill Sportsmen’s Club and New Baltimore Sportsman’s Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing trips to Canada with his sons, traveling with his wife to Pigeon Forge, watching racing, 4th of July picnics, and spending time with his family. Blackie will be greatly missed and made a difference in everyones lives. He gave us countless memories and stories that many will go on telling the rest of their lives.
