Graham Wilson McIntyre

Colonel (Retired) Graham Wilson McIntyre, whose life was defined by service, humility, and devotion to faith, family, and country, passed away peacefully at his home on August 30, 2025, at the age of 94. A patriot in both peace and war, Graham served with honor and distinction throughout his remarkable life. Born in Berlin, Pennsylvania, Graham faced loss early when his father died from combat wounds sustained in World War I. Alongside his beloved older brother he spent his formative years at the Milton Hershey School (MHS) in Hershey, Pennsylvania. The values instilled there—discipline, perseverance, and gratitude—would guide him for the rest of his life. Graham later served as president of the MHS Alumni Association and was honored as MHS Alumnus of the Year in 1991. Following MHS, Graham earned an appointment to the United States Military Academy at West Point where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree. In 1954 Graham married Norma Sidney Zimmerman of Glencoe, Pennsylvania. For 46 years, until her passing in 2000, they shared a life filled with love, travel, and the joy of raising five children. Graham served in the Army’s Field Artillery and Air Defense Artillery. His service included a combat tour in Vietnam, where he commanded a battalion with courage and compassion, earning the Bronze Star with Valor. He furthered his education with a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Southern California. Promoted to the Army General Staff, he served at the Pentagon, contributing to advancements in U.S. air defense systems. After retiring from the Army as a Colonel, Graham embarked on a second career as Director of Research and Resources for The George Washington University’s School of Engineering and Applied Science. For two decades, his tireless work ethic and leadership helped shape the education of thousands of engineering students and contributed to the school’s growth and success. In 2002, Graham found love again with Nancy Mays of New Cumberland, Pennsylvania. Together, they built a life of community service and companionship, volunteering for numerous committees. Graham is survived by his wife Nancy, five children, three stepchildren, seventeen grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the values he upheld, and the joy he brought to those around him. His was a life of purpose, and his memory will forever be a blessing to all who knew him. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 18, 2025 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Berlin.
