Hazel Katherine “Kate” Tomlinson, 90 of Central City went to Heaven on January 4, 2026 to serve the Lord. Born May 26, 1935 in Glencoe, daughter of Harry Sr. and Mabel M. (Dively) Smith. Preceded in death by parents, husband Marvin G. Tomlinson, brothers: Harry Jr., Herbert, James, Carl, Billy, John, and Robert Smith, and sisters: Ruth Hutzel, Ethel Donges, and Arlene Gallegher. Survived by sons: David (Catherine) and Jeffrey (Lisa) Tomlinson; grandchildren: Latasha, Kyle, Erik (Kaitlyn), and Elizabeth Tomlinson; great grandchildren: Keegan, Penelope, and Karson Tomlinson; sisters: Dorothy Leister and Nancy Miller; brothers: Kenneth (Marian) and Thomas (Sharon) Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews. Kate spent most of her life in Bedford and Somerset Counties, traveling occasionally for special events. She was skilled in various domestic tasks including sewing, cooking, baking, cleaning, and gardening which often would include a weekly visit to her home place in Glencoe to help her mother with chores. Kate’s friends and family spoke often of her ability to work all day and then prepare a delicious home-style meal with freshly baked cookies and pies for dessert. Kate welcomed anyone who would come to the door and always prepared more food than could be eaten. Kate happily worked many years alongside Marvin at their city home in Somerset County and on their farm in Bedford County, enjoying their Allegheny Mountain homes. Kate valued her role as a mother and housekeeper, prioritizing family outings, reunions, and celebrations. She valued God and her family. Kate loved a parade and enrolled her boys in a marching band to participate in the local parades. Even as her sons grew older, she cared deeply for them and encouraged them to slow down as they were getting older: advice she did not follow herself. Kate lived over 60 years in Central City, actively participating in the United Methodist Church in a variety of roles and responsibilities, and was deeply saddened when she could not attend regularly. Kate will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and neighbor who always had a servant’s heart on her mind. She will be dearly missed by her family and all who knew her. Viewing from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Deaner Funeral Home, Berlin.
