Helen M. (Engle) Diest

Helen M. Diest, 97, Berlin, died January 6, 2025 at Meadow View Nursing Center. Born October 21, 1927 in Meyersdale, daughter of Ray and Bertha (Handwerk) Engle. Preceded in death by parents, husband Harry “Pepper”, sons Craig and Jody, sisters Nada Schrock and Marian Gindlesperger, and brothers Robert and Ray Engle. Survived by several nieces and nephews. She was a 1945 graduate of Berlin Brothersvalley High School. She was a former owner/operator of the first Dairy Queen in La Vale, MD as well as a Dairy Queen in Blairsville. Member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Berlin. Helen enjoyed puzzles, knitting, reading, and traveling. She was thankful for all of her good friends and neighbors. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Deaner Funeral Home, Berlin, where service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday. Rev. David Creamer officiating.
