Herbert H. “Herb” Smith, 96, Berlin, died December 7, 2024 at The Patriot. Born November 4, 1928 in Glencoe, son of Harry and Mabel (Dively) Smith. Preceded in death by parents, wife the former Mildred Bittner, brothers Harry Jr., Carl, Robert, John, James, and William Smith, and sisters Ethel Donges and Ruth Hutzell. Survived by his children: Gary (Linda) Smith, Jerry Smith, and Marjorie (Chris) Sines; grandchildren: Daryl (Tracy) Smith, Glenda (T.) Croner, Brenda (Chris) Swank, Chris Sines (fiancée Lindsey), and Jennifer (Kedrick) Lapp; great grandchildren: Zach Parry, Shaina Sines, Tucker and Ava Lapp, Brittany Wicks, April Shaulis, Noah and Levi Croner, and Cody, Cyle, and Cole Smith; 7 great great grandchildren; sisters: Arlene Gallagher, Hazel ”Kate” Tomlinson, Dorothy Leister, and Nancy Miller; and brothers: Kenneth (Marian) and Thomas (Sharon) Smith. He was a former coal miner and custodian at Berlin Brothersvalley High School. Member of Mt. Olivet Country Church. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. The family would like to thank the staff at The Patriot and Via Quest Hospice for their compassionate care. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Deaner Funeral Home, Berlin, where service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday. Rev. David Klink officiating. Interment Mt.
