Ila Ruth (Zimmerman) McQuade

Ila Ruth McQuade, 101, Stoystown, died April 29, 2020, at Somerset In Touch Hospice House.  Born March 19, 1919, in Shade Twp., daughter of Ira and Olive (Ankeny) Zimmerman. Preceded in death by parents, husband Richard McQuade (2013, a union of 74 years), and brothers: Lloyd (Doris) and Roy Zimmerman. Survived by daughter Colleen (Gary) Bentz, Stoystown; son David (Ann) McQuade, Idaho; granddaughters: Kristi (Brian) Hanlon, Maryland, and Tiffany (Joel) Landis, Berlin; three great-grandsons: Zachary and Garrett Hanlon, and Dylan Landis; sisters-in-law: Ruby McQuade and Crystal Zimmerman; and numerous nieces and nephews. Ila was a 1936 graduate of Shade High School. She worked in Youngstown, OH steel plant, during World War II, and was the Assistant Secretary for Rockingham Light Heat and Power, Co., Central City. Ila was always busy helping out a neighbor or friend, when not knitting, crocheting, sewing, embroidering, or canning the fall harvest, before losing her eye sight. She enjoyed going on motorcycle rides with Dick. She was a former member of the Central City E.U.B. Church, now a member of the Kantner United Methodist Church. She was a Sunday School teacher, pianist, and a faithful servant of her Lord and Savior. She resided in Stonycreek Twp., before moving to Heritage at Siemon’s in Somerset, where she lived for 7.5 years, then to In Touch Hospice. The family would like to thank all those who loved, cared, prayed, sent cards, flowers, or visited her over the years. Due to the current health concerns, a private graveside service will be held at Odd Fellows Cemetery, Stoystown.
