James Neil Crowell, 79, Fairhope, died November 28, 2023 at UPMC Somerset Hospital. Born December 13, 1943 in Allport, son of Orin and Lois (Hubler) Crowell. Preceded in death by parents and sister Joyce Yeary. Survived by his wife of 56 years, the former Theresa Selepack; children: Rhea (Jeffrey) Leydig and Bryan (Rose-Anna Behr) Crowell; grandchildren: Nate (Kayla Bruner) and Jake Leydig; brothers: Jerry (Becky) and Ted (MaryAnn) Crowell; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was a 1961 graduate of West Branch High School, a 1967 graduate of IUP, and a 1971 graduate of the University of South Dakota. He was a Vietnam War era Air Force veteran. Neil was a high school chemistry and physics teacher in Oil City, Woodsville, NH, and Berlin. Member of Berlin American Legion Post 445. Neil liked woodworking, carpentry, gardening, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. He taught generations of students that “Life is a bowl full of chemistry and physics.” There will be no viewing or service. Those who wish to remember Neil are encouraged to plant a tree in his memory or to donate to a local animal shelter or a charity of their choice.
