Janet Miller Obituary

Janet Louise Miller, 92, of Fairhope, went to be with her Lord and Savior while she slept peacefully in the comfort of her home March 21, 2023. Born January 1, 1931 in Macdonaldton, daughter of Harry O. and Ruth E. (Saylor) Smith. Preceded in death by parents; husband Edgar Lee; son Bobby; grandson Harry Andrew; and brother-in-law Ben Scheller. Survived by sister; Barbara; daughter-in-law Janice; grandchildren Angela (Joseph) Rigo, Jessica (Lonnie) Coughenour, and Lucas Miller; great-grandchildren Sydney (Terrell), Cameron, Taylor, Antonio and Deangelo Rigo; Alivia, Caroline, Samuel and Jacob Coughenour; great-great-grandsons: Greyson and Kai. Affectionately known as “Grammy Janet” or “Little Janet” to many including “adopted” grandsons Billy Jo Parrish and Chad Lowery and dear friends Janet Valentine and Melinda Maust, whose friendship she was forever grateful for. Janet was a graduate of Berlin Brothersvalley High School. She retired from DeVilbiss Healthcare after 19 years. She was also a cook at the New Baltimore Sportsman’s Club in her retirement years. Janet was a devoted grandmother and enjoyed spending time with her grandkids and later watching her great-grandchildren grow. She loved to cook, clean, garden, canning and take care of everyone she came in contact with. After she became a widow she moved in with her father and took care of him so he could stay in his home until the day he passed. Janet, like her father, was a wealth of knowledge and told incredible stories about “the good ole days”. She told everyone to “stop on by for a visit” and often kept her front door open so passersby’s knew she was home and they were welcome to stop in. She woke up every morning and got on her knees to pray and thank God. Her vision didn’t allow her to read the bible anymore but she enjoyed listening to TBN all day every day and would often talk about the sermons she heard and relay those messages to her family. She enjoyed her daily phone conversations with her sister; lunches with Dave and Sue, especially if Dave cooked; and visits with her friends Janet and Melinda which often included a big meal, good desserts, a lot of laughing, a haircut and pampering. Janet was a member of New Baltimore Sportsman’s Club and Trinity UCC, Roxbury. Janet lived by her father’s motto, “work never killed no one, and that’s all I know”. Her passing is the end of an era, they do not make them like they used to. She will be missed by all, until we meet again in our Father’s house. Family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until memorial service at 11 a.m. Friday at Deaner Funeral Home, Berlin. Rev. Tom Sprowls officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Community Foundation for the Alleghenies, 216 Franklin St., Suite 400, Johnstown, PA 15901 – the Bobby L. Miller Athletic Memorial Award. DeanerFuneralsAndCremations.com
