John Frederic “Fred” Uphouse, 86, Berlin, died December 27, 2024 at UPMC Altoona. Born May 11, 1938 in Somerset, son of Woodrow and Rosalie (Grove) Uphouse. Preceded in death by parents, wife the former Carol Bowser, brother James Uphouse, and step son Keith Sarver. Survived by children: Christopher (Jane) Uphouse, Jennifer (Paul) Horner, and Heather Uphouse; grandchildren: Laken, Ashley, and Ryan Tressler and Brianna Hunt; great grandchildren: Taylor, Madison, Zoey, Ryleigh, Paisley, Jaxson, Grayson, Aviana, Arilyn, and Axel; sisters: Deanna Barndt, Beverly Sleasman, Mary J. Baer, and Bonita Morelli; brothers: Don, Jay, and Robert Uphouse; and his beloved dog Mercedes, who never left his side. Fred was a graduate of Somerset High School and enjoyed telling stories of his many track awards and holding the long jump record for many years. He was a US Army veteran. He owned and operated a milk truck before becoming the owner of the B & B Bar for 25 years. Fred was also a retired machine operator for Norse Dairy Systems. He was a fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates and Penn State football. Fred enjoyed playing guitar, especially his steel guitar, telling jokes, and attending his grandkids’ sporting events. In his final days, the nurse asked him what was important and he replied “My family”. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday January 12th at Deaner Funeral Home, Berlin.
