Joseph Potochar Obituary

Joseph E. Potochar, 79, of Hooversville, went to be with the Lord and his beloved wife Peggy on Apr. 15, 2020 in Orlando, FL. Born Nov. 26, 1940 in Windber, son of Joseph H. Potochar and Charlotte Ethel (Ankney) Potochar-Nelson. Preceded in death by parents, wife the former Peggy Oaks, and brother Ronald L. Potochar. Survived by brother Richard Barbuschak; sister-in-law Bonnie Potochar; and brother-in-law Robert Oaks. He was a 1958 graduate of Forbes High School and a graduate of California State College. He worked for the U.S. Naval Oceanographic Office in Washington, D.C. before being drafted into the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He taught Industrial Arts at North Star Middle School and High School, was a partner in Potochar and Potochar Coal Company, and was a Deputy Sheriff for the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office up until his retirement in 2013. Life member of Hooversville VFW Post 7565, Stoystown American Legion Post 257, and the Greater Ferndale Sportsman Club. Member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 2427, County Line, FL., and Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 3496, Orlando, FL, and the NRA. According to Joe, “I have lived a long and enjoyable life, during which I have experienced many good and some bad things. I have enjoyed drinking many, many beers and other adult beverages during my time on this earth. My life became better and more enjoyable after my loving Peggy entered it, with the best day being when she married me and the worst day being when she left us. So my friends, don’t feel sorry for me, for after years of missing her, I am where I want to be, with my Peggy. In lieu of flowers, drink a couple of beers for me!” Due to the current health concerns, a private graveside service will be held at P.O.S. of A. Cemetery, Hooversville. Pastor Joseph Caola officiating. Graveside Military Honors by the Somerset County Honor Guard. Arrangements entrusted to Deaner Funeral Home, Hooversville.
