Julia Kolonich, 103, Hooversville, passed away August 31, 2018 at home. Born May 14, 1915 in Hooversville, daughter of George and Theresa (Salko) Yuhas. Preceded in death by parents, husband of 50 years Frank Kolonich Sr. on Aug. 3, 1980, sons: Frank Jr. killed in Korea Sept. 4, 1950, Ernest who died Jun. 30, 1969, grandsons: David Shroyer who died Oct. 8, 1974, Frank Grill, who died Nov. 20, 2017, and son-in-law Anthony Deitke who died Jan. 9, 2012. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Also preceded in death by brothers: John and George Jr., and sister Betty Sandusky. Survived by children: Florence Deitke, John (Josephine), Robert (Teri), Shirley (Stephen) Zborovancik, and Rev. Ronald (Jill); eleven grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter Chloe Julia Maebh Kolonich; and numerous nieces, nephews, and countless friends. She worked hard and learned to be a good wife and mother. She was very talented at sewing and crocheting. In her early years she helped Dr. James deliver babies. She was very active in the church, and loved her Lord. She was the oldest member of Holy Family Catholic Church where she served as a catechism teacher, choir member, leader of the Legion of Mary, member of the Sacred Heart Society, church cleaner, and helped with numerous discussion groups and fundraisers. She was an excellent cook and baker, most famously known for her homemade bread. Always a quick wit and opinionated, she was not afraid to speak her mind or come to someone’s defense. She enjoyed the simple things in life and taught her family and friends to have a strong faith and instilled her value of family unity. She will be greatly missed by those who cherished her. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Deaner Funeral Home, Hooversville where a vigil service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Family Catholic Church, Hooversville.
