Lewis W. Berkley, 92, of Berlin, died peacefully at home on February 27th 2024. Born April 26, 1931 in Berlin. He is the son of Sherman and Anna (Hay) Berkley. Preceded in death by his parents, brother; Van Berkley, sisters; Lucille Nast and Wilma Byron. Survived by his wife, Barbara (Means) Berkley, children; Michele Romesberg (Josh Glotfelty), Nancy (Todd) Imhoff, and Gina (Jess) Parks; grandchildren; Drew (Katie) Romesberg, Nick (Emma) Imhoff, Anna (Jordan) Seele, Grace Romesberg, CeCe Parks and Joanna Parks, great grandchildren; Tara Romesberg, Kade Seele, Meyer Imhoff and Miller Romesberg. He was a 1948 graduate of Berlin Brothersvalley High School. Graduate of Penn State University and a veteran of the US Army. He and his wife are longtime members of Trinity United Church of Christ, Berlin, where he served in various leadership capacities. Lewis was civically oriented and served both on the BBHS school board and as a director for the Somerset County Fair. He sat on the board of First Philson National Bank and Highland Mutual Insurance Co. Lew was a lifelong 5th generation farmer and dedicated his life to raising Holsteins under the prefix Berkline Holsteins where he earned numerous awards: He was the recipient of the PA Holstein Hall of Fame award for lifetime herd productivity. He was a progressive breeder award winner for 9 consecutive years and a progressive genetic award winner for 8 years. He bred 29 "excellent" cows and sent 19 bulls to studs. He operated Crystal Springs Farm, a Dairy of Distinction, and was recognized as a Master Farmer. All of this was accomplished with the loving support of his wife, Barbara. His love of music nearly equals his love of cows. He played numerous instruments, was a member of the Penn State Blue Band with a passion for jazz and classical music. He was a proud member of the Berlin Fife and Drum Corp for many years. Lew enjoyed watching sports of all kinds but especially enjoyed watching his beloved Penn State Nittany Lions and Berlin Brothersvalley HS Football. He dabbled in photography, kept a wonderfully manicured lawn and loved a good home cooked meal. He lived and role modeled a life where God and family were priority. He will be missed by many. The family would like to thank Heartland Hospice and the many wonderful caregivers for their love and support during his final time on earth.
