Lowman Jay Leverknight, 86, Stoystown, died December 28, 2024 at Somerset Healthcare and Rehabilitation. Born December 7, 1938 in Kimmelton, son of Lowman S. and Catherine (Kimmel) Leverknight. Preceded in death by parents, daughter Amy Niemiec, sisters Anna Jane (Gene) Brown and Betty (Bob) Bailey, and brothers Clyde (Joann), Bob (Betty) and Jimmy (Linda) Leverknight. Survived by his wife of 65 years the former Eleanor Craver; children: Joyce (Eddie) Anderson and David (DJ) Leverknight; grandchildren: Nicole McGrogan, Justin Anderson, and Mitchell and Madison Leverknight; great grandson Carter McGrogan; and son-in-law Frank Niemiec. He was a graduate of Forbes High School and was retired from Bethlehem Steel. He also plowed snow for PennDOT after his retirement. Member of Mostoller Methodist Church, New Baltimore Sportsman’s Club, Jenner Rod and Gun Club, and several area historical societies. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, visiting his camp in Potter County, spending time with his good friends at the Walker’s farm, and spending time with his grandchildren. There will be no viewing or service at Jay’s request. Interment Maple Springs Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to Mostoller Methodist Church, 549 Pompey Hill Rd., Stoystown, PA 15563.
