Obituary

Lucas Daniel Hayman, 20, Berlin, died July 13, 2021 at Memorial Medical Center, Johnstown. Born Feb. 24, 2001 in Johnstown, son of Jonathan and Holly (Custer) Hayman, of Berlin. Preceded in death by paternal grandmother Beverly (Shaulis) Hayman and uncle Larry Robert Hayman. In addition to his parents, Lucas is survived by his sister Sami Jo; maternal grandparents: Larry “Pap” and Pamela “Meme” Custer; paternal grandfather Larry Hayman; maternal great grandparents: Dale and Betty Custer; girlfriend Amber Long; aunts and uncles: Shellby Custer, Colby (Amanda) Custer, Lore (Jacob) Baughman, Norene Kemp, and Rick Hayman; cousins: Colton Custer, R.J. Hayman, Kelsey Seifert, Melanie Baughman, Destiny Hayman, and Bobbi Kemp; and special friends: Jeff “Turtle” Chipikitis and Mike Griffith. He was a 2019 graduate of Berlin Brothersvalley High School and was attending West Virginia University. In high school Lucas was an active member in the FFA were he earned his Keystone Degree and American Degree. He had a passion for singing and dancing and could be found on the stage each year participating in the high school musicals. Lucas was a member of the Milksquirts 4-H club. While in 4-H he participated in showing livestock, square dancing, cooking, archery, public speaking, and fishing. He was also a member of the 4-H County Council and Exchange Club to Oregon. Lucas was a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ, where he served as an usher, lector reader, bell choir member and member of the Hugs and Kisses youth group. Lucas loved to hunt and fish. Quite often he would be known to take the extra drive to look for the deer or to hear the turkey gobble. But his true passion was raising, showing and breeding livestock. He was always at home in the show ring. He was a member of the Pennsylvania Club Livestock Association (PCLA). This year his goal was to be the Sr. Champion Lamb Showman. He obtained his goal, well done Lucas. Lucas worked at the Dairy Bar Restaurant for the last five years. He always said he was the best cook around. He also worked for the Kirk and Luther Hillegas Dairy Farm. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Trinity United Church of Christ, 600 Main St., Berlin, PA 15530. Viewing from 9 a.m. until service at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Church. Funeral service will be live streamed on the Deaner Funeral Home Facebook Page. Rev. Dr. David Williams officiating. Interment Berlin I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
